Tips for Getting Higher Rates

  1. Build experience at premium venues — Work at 4-5 star hotels or fine dining to build a strong portfolio
  2. Obtain certifications — Barista certification, Food Handler, ServSafe, or English language
  3. Maintain a high rating — A 4.5+ rating opens doors for premium rates
  4. Specialize — Workers with specific skills (sommelier, specialty barista) can charge more
  5. Flexibility — Being ready to work weekdays and weekends increases your value
  6. Negotiate — If the job listing description doesn’t state a rate, try negotiating based on your skills

Rate Strategy for Employers

Tips for Offering Competitive Rates

  1. Research market rates — Use this guide to ensure your rate is competitive
  2. Don’t go too low — Below-market rates will attract low-quality applicants or no applicants at all
  3. Offer additional benefits — Meals, transport, or tips can substitute part of cash compensation
  4. Premium rate for difficult positions — If you need workers urgently or the position requires special skills, raise the rate slightly
  5. Be transparent — Clearly state the rate in the description to attract the right candidates
